🎤 Recording Individual Songs

Learn how to record single songs, normalize audio, trim recordings, and promote them as reference recordings or add them to albums.

Starting a Song Recording

  1. Go to Quick Record (/quick-record)
  2. Select your band
  3. Choose "Record a Song"
  4. Select the song you want to record
  5. Click "Continue to Recording"
  6. Grant microphone permission
  7. Recording starts immediately

During Recording

  • A floating recording widget shows the timer
  • You can minimize the widget if needed
  • Navigate to other pages while recording
  • Don't close the browser or leave the site

After Recording

  1. Click "Stop" when finished
  2. You'll be taken to the preview page
  3. Review your recording
  4. Choose to upload, save for later, or discard

Normalizing Recordings

Normalize for consistent volume levels:

  1. Go to the recording detail page
  2. Click "Normalize Recording"
  3. System adjusts audio to -1.3 dB peak
  4. Creates a new normalized version
  5. Original is preserved
Note: Files larger than 300MB should be normalized on your computer before uploading using tools like Audacity or FFmpeg.

Trimming Recordings

Edit start and end points:

  1. Go to the recording detail page
  2. Click the scissors icon or "Trim Recording"
  3. Use the waveform editor to select the portion you want
  4. Adjust start and end points
  5. Click "Trim Recording"
  6. Original file is edited in place

Tip: Trim removes silence at the beginning and end for cleaner playback.

Promoting Recordings

Make a recording the default audio for a song:

  1. Go to the recording detail page
  2. Click "Promote to Song Links"
  3. Recording becomes the reference recording
  4. Appears as the default audio link on the song page
  5. Used in setlist playlists automatically

Adding to Albums

Include recordings in published albums:

  1. Go to the recording detail page
  2. Click "Add to Album"
  3. Choose existing album or create new one
  4. Recording becomes a track on the album
  5. Fans can listen on the album's public page

Recording Quality Tips

  • Use a quiet environment for best results
  • Position microphone at optimal distance
  • Test levels before recording
  • Normalize after recording for consistent volume
  • Trim to remove unwanted silence
  • Promote your best takes as reference recordings
