🎤 Recording Individual Songs
Learn how to record single songs, normalize audio, trim recordings, and promote them as reference recordings or add them to albums.
Starting a Song Recording
- Go to Quick Record (
/quick-record) - Select your band
- Choose "Record a Song"
- Select the song you want to record
- Click "Continue to Recording"
- Grant microphone permission
- Recording starts immediately
During Recording
- A floating recording widget shows the timer
- You can minimize the widget if needed
- Navigate to other pages while recording
- Don't close the browser or leave the site
After Recording
- Click "Stop" when finished
- You'll be taken to the preview page
- Review your recording
- Choose to upload, save for later, or discard
Normalizing Recordings
Normalize for consistent volume levels:
- Go to the recording detail page
- Click "Normalize Recording"
- System adjusts audio to -1.3 dB peak
- Creates a new normalized version
- Original is preserved
Note: Files larger than 300MB should be normalized on your computer before uploading using tools like Audacity or FFmpeg.
Trimming Recordings
Edit start and end points:
- Go to the recording detail page
- Click the scissors icon or "Trim Recording"
- Use the waveform editor to select the portion you want
- Adjust start and end points
- Click "Trim Recording"
- Original file is edited in place
Tip: Trim removes silence at the beginning and end for cleaner playback.
Promoting Recordings
Make a recording the default audio for a song:
- Go to the recording detail page
- Click "Promote to Song Links"
- Recording becomes the reference recording
- Appears as the default audio link on the song page
- Used in setlist playlists automatically
Adding to Albums
Include recordings in published albums:
- Go to the recording detail page
- Click "Add to Album"
- Choose existing album or create new one
- Recording becomes a track on the album
- Fans can listen on the album's public page
Recording Quality Tips
- Use a quiet environment for best results
- Position microphone at optimal distance
- Test levels before recording
- Normalize after recording for consistent volume
- Trim to remove unwanted silence
- Promote your best takes as reference recordings
